Role Overview:

This is a full-time on-site role for a Business Development Manager who will lead the growth of the firm’s private sector research practice. Building on the company established research and data collection capabilities, the role focuses on developing and winning commercial research engagements with private sector clients — including banks, telecommunications operators, consumer goods companies, and large corporates — across Jordan and the wider region. The Business Development Manager is responsible for shaping the firm’s commercial research proposition, building and converting a pipeline of new business, and nurturing long-term client relationships. The role combines commercial acumen and a strong client network with sufficient research literacy to scope studies and translate the firm’s capabilities into market-ready offerings, and suits an entrepreneurial, self-driven individual who will help establish this new practice in close collaboration with senior management.

 Responsibilities

  • Market development and client acquisition: identify, target, and win new private sector clients across priority sectors (banking, telecommunications, consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, tobacco, and large corporates), building and converting a sustained pipeline of commercial research opportunities.
  • Commercial proposition development: translate the firm’s research and data collection capabilities into market-ready offerings — such as brand health and tracking studies, customer experience and satisfaction measurement, usage and attitude studies, product and concept testing, mystery shopping, and stakeholder research — tailored to private sector needs.
  • Proposal and pitch leadership: lead the development of commercial proposals, pricing, and client pitches, ensuring they are competitive, commercially sound, and clearly differentiated from global and regional research agencies.
  • Client relationship management: act as the primary commercial point of contact for private sector clients, building and maintaining strong, long-term relationships that generate repeat and referral business.
  • Go-to-market strategy and positioning: define and refine the practice’s positioning, target segments, and competitive strategy, identifying where the firm can credibly win against established players and articulating a clear value proposition.
  • Commercial targets and pipeline management: own and manage business development targets, maintaining an accurate pipeline and providing regular forecasts and performance reports to senior management, and progressively assuming ownership of the practice’s commercial performance.
  • Cross-departmental collaboration: work closely with the technical and field research teams to scope engagements, align methodologies with client requirements, and ensure deliverables meet commercial standards for quality, format, and turnaround.
  • Market intelligence: monitor sector trends, client needs, competitor activity, and pricing dynamics, using these insights to inform the firm’s offering and business development priorities.
  • Partnerships and networks: build and manage relationships with industry contacts, associations, and, where relevant, external partners (e.g. consumer panel and data providers), expanding the firm’s reach and capabilities in the private sector.
  • Practice and capability building: support senior management in building the people, tools, and processes required to deliver commercial research at scale, contributing to the recruitment and development of the practice over time.
  • Brand representation and thought leadership: represent the firm at industry events, in client forums, and through thought leadership, raising company’s profile and credibility within the private sector.
  • Internal development: contribute to internal initiatives such as knowledge exchange and process improvement, supporting the firm’s broader diversification and growth objectives.
